So, what is the timing set at now? What size tires are you running also.

Get a vacuum gauge, hook it up, and adjust your timing by watching the gauge. Advance from 0ยบ to where the gauge peaks at the highest reading (which on mine is just over 22in of mercury), then retard just a smidgen (so the gauge reads between 21in and 22in). While the engine is hot from running/idling shut it off and immediately restart. If it acts like your battery is dieing, then back off the timing a smidgen again. You want to be where the engine starts right when at operating temperature. If you have a good starting engine at the high point of your gauge reading, then you have just reached optimum. Best gas mileage and the torque should be right up there also.

Do you live in snow country? I would not be trying your driveway in the winter with snow on the ground myself. Been there, Done that, ended up parking by the mailbox down on the county road and walking the 250 yards to the back door in the winter. We used the drive for a toboggan run. When the drive turned to mud in early spring, forget it!

That is a pretty steep grade, but I'm just having a tough time grasping it not being able to pull that hill even with a running start. Especially only 250 feet! I've got all ideas your timing is off. As mentioned I think you need to start advancing it a bit at a time and trying that. Something is up with it idling that fast also.

If it at a fast idle that won't come down reasonably you may have a vacumm leak. Did you use a new gasket under the carb?

If you dont get it done with what has been stated above from the others, change your fuel pump...the mandatory alcohol in gasoline now wears the diaphram rubber out WAy too soon
for me six years and two fuel pumps. But that is just me, my 66 is my daily driver.
Once you are satisfied with the repairs please post the corrct fix for your jeep

I don't really remember you stating what is making your jeep fail to get to the top. Does it just not have power to? is it just dying when you give it gas? or what?

It's like trying to start out in third gear or tying to pull the hill in the wrong gear.
I should get my parts to rebuild my backup T90c tomorrow and should have it in before the end of the mouth.
    Will post the results

I was in your driveway and do not remember it being any steeper than a hill I have climbed with no problem near my house. The only time I had a similar problem on that hill was, coincidentally, after putting on my newly rebuilt carburetor. After adjusting the timing and fuel mixture I can get up that hill, from a dead start, in the middle, with no problem.

You said you changed the cap, rotor, points, etc...but did you check the coil. Maybe you are not getting the amount of spark needed when putting it under more excessive load.

The coil is new also. Like I said it came up backward no problem. Put the T90C in today should finish tomorrow if I get a chance to work on it. Will post results when done.

Worked on jeep today(Fri. 18 ) all back together but the floor plates ran out of time. the transmission I pulled out was a t90A 18 teeth on the input gear. Will test the jeep out on the hill Monday
    Will let everyone know then.
Just in case I did not say it earlier Thanks for all the help I would not have figured this out on my own

Could it be that your old tranny wasn't really going into 1st gear? Or maybe it had a bad bearing in it that was binding things up. Glad you got it fixed.

No the tranny was good I rebuilt it before I put it in. I just did not know that there was different t90s. But thanks to these guys I learned.;) I plan to convert the t90a in to a c with A new input and cluster gear everything in it is new.
