When installing a small block chevy into an intermediate or late cj (long hood), do you have to cut the fire wall and recess it like you do with the early cj to make enough room for the distributor?

    Thanks

No. And you don't on the early's either despite what some would have you believe.

That's some of the best news I have had in awhile! Does anyone have any pics of a Chevy V8 in an intermediate or late model without firewall mods?

    Thanks

If you mount the motor as far back as I did you will have to. (I know it's a V6 but the distributor is in the same spot.)

    Thanks guys.

My 4WD Hardware glass body has a recessed area in the fire wall as is. Based on the pics of the V8 install, which also shows a recess, I don't think I will need to reconfigure my fire wall, assuming I use the late, longer hood and grill location. Looks like it even required an extension on the water pump to get the fan closer to the radiator.

Nice to find "something" on this project I don't have to modify!
