Are Monroe shocks The original brand shocks that came on the 57 Cj5?

Are these shocks just right for the Jeep or is it worth the extra money for high end shocks?

From what I recall back at the dealership in the '70s, they were said to be Monroe shocks. However, none of the OEM shocks came through with any brand marking.

IMO any manufacturer of shocks can make an equivalent replacement shock for the originals - Monroe, Gabriel, Delco, KYB, whatever. There's nothing special about the Monroe brand for OEM replacements.

No personal experience, but those that have the Rancho adjustable shocks seem to universally like them.

I like mine a lot, but they are expensive and wouldn't be appropriate for a resto, which it sounds like the OP is interested in.

Yes as far as I recall Willys was using Monroe shocks since the git go.
IMHO they are pretty good shocks for use with standard suspension systems.
I run them with standard HD springs and I always have done so.
Yes my ride is very stiff but that's because I run HD leaf springs and often load the CJ up with logs.
You'll want to shy away from extra HD non adjustable type shocks unless your always loaded down to near the axle bumpers.

Just to say that I changed my shocks at the jeep shop and I don't know what they put, they are blue.
What is interesting is that my CJ5 is very pleasant to drive now. Good shocks are very important. I didn't know such a difference.
