VIN On Frame

New to the Jeep world let alone a restoration project. Just found a 67 CJ-5 with a inline 4, for my 13 and 15 year old boys and I to restore. VIN tag on firewall is long gone, I have a title that was signed over but not transfered to the seller. From reading on here, my first priority is to match the vin number on the title (10 digit) to the vin on the frame. I understand about on the top of the frame it is located but still can not find it yet. Do I have to take the body off to get to the frame vin stamp?

 

Pretty sure it's only the sequential part of the VIN - not including any prefix like "8305" - that is, only the "serial number."

 

Spent some time trying to find the serial number on the frame under the battery tray with no success. I have found a engine code on the F 134 4 cylinder though. After reading many threads on this site regarding the number on the engine, I'm still not clear. From what I've gathered all F4-134's prior to "67 started with 4J which is what I have (title claims it's a 1967). The remaining engine codes following that are a 6 digit number. What do those mean?

 

On my 1963 CJ5, the VIN number was on top of the frame near the starter, a little farther back than the battery tray. (It has the battery up front near the radiator, not on the firewall).

 

Thanks, I did figure that out being battery trays are different for the 6 cylinders and 4 cylinders. Still haven't found the stamping yet though, will be doing more sanding tonight.

Found the stamping for the engine code of 4J454524, which I'm curious as to what this describes? 4J is supposed to indicate all F134's prior to 1967, and the following digits represent the day of the year it was manufactured, with some engine options for the last two digits? This doesn't jive being this CJ-5 is titled a 1967, although I suppose anything is possible? But I doubt this is a 1945 block. Any help deciphering this engine code is greatly appreciated.

Found it, under years of history mostly rust that needed sanded. It was right where all of you said it would be, adjacent to the starter, at the upward bend of the frame just behind the motor mount bracket. It is the sequential number and the best part is it matches the title.

Interesting enough, this vehicle is a week younger than my wife from my best guesstimate.

Thank you all for your help, this mini milestone would not have occurred without the generosity of those of you that help on this site. Now I just need to figure out if this is the original block.
