Sparing the long story, it has been way too long since I have been around.

Rebuilt Dauntless V6, primed oil pump turning with a drill. Oil POURS out the FRONT end of the right side rocker assembly (the center tube everything slides onto) just about overflowing the head.

I thought - WTH - no oil on the left side. So I wrapped it up and it sat n sat n sat.

Last night for no reason other than I have thought about this every week for more than a year, I go out in the garage, un-wrap the engine (it's still on the stand) and drill turn the pump - no change. I remove the valve covers - turn - no change.

I removed the rocker assemblies, turn. Oil to BOTH SIDES and 12" high - WTF. - I left this for a year >>>>daym !!! shoulda though of this sooner.

So, while looking for a plugged rocker arms I notice a slight difference between the left an right sides, which are passenger side and driver side standing at the front of the engine.

The "Dry" no oil through the rockers left/passenger side has plugs on each end of the center tube.

The "pouring oil out the front" Right/driver side is missing the plug on the front, or it's not supposed to have them?

    THATS my question -

My thought - without the plug, no way pressure builds to oil the rockers or push rods

Your thoughts? - please educate me

just for further info, I transplanted this engine into my 64 cj5, it was started before the transplant, ran and sounded fine. It lasted 3 days and started pumping oil out the exhaust. Not just a little smoke - were talking bug control in the south smoke - oil pouring out the exhaust

When I disassembled it I found 2 broken push rods - exhaust on 6 and intake on 3,l bent - mangled - treated poorly to say the least

With the rocker arm oil volume on the right / driver side - I imagine the oil was flooding the head and pouring, getting sucked through the intake valves.

The rocker assemblies are interchangeable from side to side as are the heads. The rocker shafts are required to have the plug in both ends. The assy that has the plug missing has been worked on and probably re-assembled wrong. We have had lots of discussion about the 225 rocker assemblies. Also note the oil return holes at the rear of the heads, they can become plugged.

If you get stuck finding a plug I have a couple of old rocker shafts ready to go for scrap.
