    HELP!

Where do I get the correct muffler and tailpipe for a 75 CJ5, 6 cyl?

It seems the tailpipe is no longer made by Walker, and 76+ pipes aren't fitting the way I'd like, plus the pipe diameters are all goofy. I just want to put it on and be done with this issue.

I like a quiet sound, the quieter the better, but stock exhaust sound is satisfactory.

Lou's Custom Exhaust in North Reading built a manifold-back system for my J10 more than a decade ago. It fits well and has not rusted. This is much better durability than Walker parts I've used.

The main downside with a muffler shop system is they will weld it all together. More durable, but you can't replace pieces yourself.

Used E&E Exhaust and Welding in Mercer PA (western), they built a beauty of a 2-1 using stainless pipe. Find a local shop of car guys and have them build your LAST exhaust using welded stainless, except to use slip fit and clamps for the muffler so you can replace when it rots out. I used a very thick flo-master so I won't ever rot out but it's a bit loud. Quiet mufflers are big and seem made of thin metal.

I was just quoted $325 for a muffler and tailpipe. $180 for tailpipe only. THat sounds a bit pricey to me.

    CHilly,

NExt time I go to OH (Marietta) , I might pass that way. but for now, its a bit out of my way. :-D.

As far as a fully welded system, Yeah, I gotta have replaceable pieces, my problem is I damage the tailpipe by backing into (usually) dirt banks, ditches etc, when I'm off-roading.

For this tailpipe, whatever the solution is, the very end needs to be removeable, so when I get to the trail I take it off, and the rest of the pipe is not exposed. I know I'll have to make that part myself.

I think I paid 350 or so for my stainless system, but I brought them the Flowmaster 40. Exit pipe is high and tight. Almost rubs the tub corner and doesn't stick out very far at all. It actually tucks up under rear left corner and descends to exit.
