For those that have swapped the model 30 in, what did you do for shock mounts? Using the brackets that I have the steering linkage will crush the shock when I turn.

A description and pictures would be great.

    Thanks,
    J

Can you weld? Move the shocks behind the axle. This is how the factory D30s are.

Thank you....I don't weld well enough for that, but the gentleman that is helping me with the new steering box does, so I will have them moved.

The old ones are riveted in and will be a PITA to remove and move..........Get a pair of the 76-81 Low mount CJ-5 front shock brackets.........they weld right to the top of the frame behind the axle and are cheap. Shown upside down in this photo......Check out E-Bay or your 4-wheel parts supplier.

I'm currently working on this same project.

I planned on doing what Tarry mentioned. It makes the most sense to just move the mounts back a bit to align with the current plates on the D30.. I hope to post some pictures of this by next week.

I don't have any shock clearance issues on mine. I think the plates are Con-Ferr.

I don't know what the front plates are, came with the front end when I bought it. The shock mount looks a little further forward on mine.

I just made my own mounts, still have them mounted like stock, work fine. They have about 1/2" of clearance on the front side.
