Hi All, I need some confirmation before I go ahead and attempt to replace these springs. What dimension do you have on your Jeep(s). The FMS has the diagonal at 52.37 but mine seems closer to 57". Thanks guys, appreciate the help

Also, I have been searching on line and through this site and came up with this posted frame diagram. My frame is a CJ5 1966 with the v4. Are the v6 dimensions here the same? Thank you.

The CJ5 frames of that era all have the same measurements. Only the motor mounts and a stop for the front axle is different between the 4cyl and V6 that I have seen.

It looks like the bushings in both ends of the new 2,5 BDS springs are sized for the pivot eye bolt. I have the heavy duty shackles on the jeep.
Can I heat out the rubber and inner bushing on these springs to accept the larger shackle bolt? What did you guys do? Thanks!

you would need the bushings to fit the larger bolts.are these the omix ones? if so the bushings aren't sold separately.

These were the super duty from Walks or Kaiser with greasable bolts. I think they are the only ones for about 26 bucks

the BDS 2.5 springs look like they have a larger bushing... then rubber... then smaller bushing. Was wondering if I can just heat out the smaller mtl bushing and rubber. Then being left with just the outer most bushing.

Are these the "C" shaped open shackles?

If so I pulled out the whole spring bushing and the shackle outer sleeve screwed right into the spring eye with some effort...these are 2.5" lift ranchos

that would leave you with not much meat on the bushing, contact the seller and see about the right bushings.

If the old bushing is bronze or a special kind of metal than you should swap that in the new spring.

hey jeep2003... I think you are right but it does look like the outer bushing on the BDS is some sort of usable metal and correct dia - 7/8"
The new brass bushings came with the shackles and (unfortunately) I put them in my old springs. So the question must be... has anyone installed the 2.5 BDS AND had the heavy duty shackles. If so - what did you do for bushings or could you simply 'melt out' the smaller inner bushing that came with the new springs? Thanks all, appreciate the input!!!

No experience with these shackles or springs but the BDS bushing is a rubber isolated sandwiched between an outer steel sleeve and an inner steel sleeve. You probably could burn out the rubber and only use the outer sleeve. obviously check to see it has the proper ID for the bolt.

Now, I would I would just order bronze sleeve replacements and install them on the new springs.

fwiw those look just like mine(omix) bushings not available from omix try to press the old ones out they have grooves for the grease to go into. thats why i dont think the outer parts of the bds ones will work.
