Where Can I Buy An Upper Inner Steering Shaft??

Discussion in 'Intermediate CJ-5/6/7/8' started by 74CJ5 Renegade, Apr 4, 2017.

  1. On my upper inner steering shaft the threads that hold the steering wheel nut are pretty badly stripped. I cannot find where I can buy a new one of a good used one.... it is for my 74 CJ5.

    Any thoughts??

I could swear I saw them on O'reillys auto parts web page when I was looking for ball joints for my 75 the other day. I believe the were Moog as well.

  3. Good ideas but no luck....

Mmm. I kinda doubt you can find that part unless you locate a wreck in a junkyard and pull it from that. PN 999719 includes horn wire and contact ring. The complete column is a popular part, and it seems unlikely that a yard that knew what they had would sell just the shaft, since it would prevent sale of the complete column.

You could try car-part.com - I was able to find about a dozen listings for the complete column nation-wide. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

I would also look into repairing it. A machinist may be able to help you.

I guess you could try e bay. Maybe Craigslist.

'75 was never a tilt column. '72-75, all the same. 1976 went to a GM column, and could be tilt. Almost everything changes for 1976.

Did you try the wrecking yard link I gave above?
