I'm lost.I am installing a 304 T15 D20 in a 67.There are no mounts just two frame rails. My question is where should the engine sit. Should it be a little to the right or to the left, how far down etc.Or do you just make it fit where ever you can. Thanks again.

    Munster,

This is where you DO NOT RUSH!! Think about everything. trans and t-case as high as practical without getting too close to the body, engine as low as possible but high enough to not interfere with front axle pushed up to the bumpstops, engine forward only enough for firewall clearance, engine and trans to the right enough for pedals to clear and still keep transfercase out of the frame rail on the right side. Drive lines do not need to be perpindicular to axles so nearly anywhere between frame rails will work. I like getting trans mount nailed first then work on motor mts. trying at all times to keep engine-trans centerline parrallel to frame rails.

You will read alot about leveling carburator/manifold surface to a particular plane but in a jeep that is rarely on level ground I feel anywhere that all the other clearance problems are taken care of, the carb level will be adequate.

Good luck and take time to think every potential conflict out.

When I pulled the F4 out of my 67 and put the v6 back in, along with a t18 tranny, my main problems were clearance for the cooling fan at the radiator, backs of the valve covers at the firewall, and the top of the tranny touching the bottom of the tub. Since you are putting a V8 in a 67 I take it you are modifying the grill/radiator to gain some room?

    Nicely said!!
Trans location seems to be the key. As far as engine level try not to exceed 5 degrees up in front. I know Jeeps don't run on level ground but try to keep it under 5 degrees 'cause as you go up a hill the angle only gets worse. And 5 degrees is a lot!! Plus drive line angles need to be addresed.

jhuey is right that 5 degrees is alot. I have found it hard to position the engine that high in the front even when trying unless the trans is way too low. Also remember that the front springs don't have engine weight on them at positioning time.
