Hello, I have a conundrum regarding my springs. My Jeep is a CJ5, but the frame was so rotten I had to replace it. I found a pretty solid M38A1 frame to use. My springs are new, from BDS suspension. I bought the C-shaped spring links (probably not the right term) that go from the spring end bushings to the frame. The C-shaped part has male threads on it. The inner most threads are coarse, and the bushings that go through the holes in the frame thread on to those coarse threads. The threads then transition to finer threads, which is what the nuts that hold the flat 'shackle' part thread on to. My problem is, the coarse threads on the c-shaped link part protrude past the hex end of the bushing part that goes through the hole in the frame, so the shackle part that is held on by the nut that threads on to the fine threads is not held tightly against the hex end of the bushing that passes through the holes in the frame. I am wondering if there is a problem here (seems like one to me). Can I consume the space between the hex end of the bushing that passes through the frame and the shackle part with washers? Ot do I have an incorrect part? Or did I install improperly? Unfortunately my pictures I took are apparently too large to upload. They would help a lot to better describe the situation. I appeal to the experts...

Got the pictures up. Wanted to get this suspension figured out so I can move on to some other stuff. Thanks for any advice!

My CJ5 is totally different, it actually has hangers for the shackles to attach to. I've never seen it bolt up like that. But I would think that you could fill it with washers, I'd put them on the other side of the shackle though.

Have you thought about just cutting the threaded section off shorter?

There should be a shackle mount below the frame. The shackle should not go through the frame.

    I would use the washers.

Remember guys, this is an M38A1 frame...reverse shackles and they go through the frame.

Right. Just not sure if I installed them incorrectly, or if have the wrong part installed, or if I just need to take up the space with a spacer or washers.

I stand corrected. Sure looks like the stock shackle would hit the frame on compression. All this said. "c" shackles would not be the best option here.

I found the answer. There is a rubber bushing that goes between the hex on the shackle sleeve the goes through the frame and the spring end, and the flat plates that get held on with the fine threaded nut. I was going to put washers in there, but in fact it should be rubber. YouTube is my friend. :)
