Went for another Sunday drive in the '71. Stopping here to let the dogs run up the driveway. They love that.

Took the kids out yesterday just running some more gravel/dirt backroads I haven't been on yet around the county.

Came across the "Redeemed Christian Church of God" North American headquarters. This is basically a Megachurch in the middle of field just north of Floyd, Tx. They own a lot of land around the main church which has housing for various members of the church and a Dormatory type building. The whole place is kind of creepy to me.

This is one of the large houses I think is associated with the church. They had a partially burned skid loader in the field, looks like it burnt fairly recently you can see the burned grass in this photo.

One of the many county roads that hasn't had gravel put down yet. After rains these dirt roads become nearly impassible. There's a lot of these in the county still.

Found this early Willys rotting away as a lawn ornament. :( Looks like it still has the full drivetrain in it.

Satisfied the rebuilt 2GC is running good I had a local drive. Drained the oil in preparation for pulling the pan and replacing the rear main that is dripping most annoyingly. Also have an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear brake line to install. One lock up and skidding into the ditch almost losing control is enough...

Oh and with tight front wheel bearings it doesn't wander near as much

Mine is parked in the back yard so I can simply look out the window from the warm house to see what still had oil in it.
Dogs have been checking the air in the tires. If the tire is wet it's good. If the wheel gets wet it needs air.

Can't say it's being neglected. My car was plugged into the camper to charge the car battery and it's tire definitely needs attention....

Downs. Thanks for the great Texas photo journalism. I enjoyed it over my morning coffee and croissant (someone needs to rescue that flattie from total decay).

No one was home but I got a mailing address while I was there so may drop a letter to them to see if they have plans for it or would be willing to part with it.

This pig has dripped and steadily gotten worse. I replaced the oil pan gasket once but that didn't stop it. Figured it was the rear seal but that was actually ok. Once I got the cap out I could see it was getting by the cap. Lots of aggravation laying on your back. Liquid help and a few homemade tools. Jobs done cooking now I'll put the pan on tomorrow and try it out. Fingers crossed...

With the pan buttoned up I installed an adjustable proportioning valve in the rear line. Tired of locking up and skidding out of control. IMG_20210102_175856029~2.jpg

I changed out the heater in the blue cj6. The one that was in there was marginal I thought. It was ok for a 30-40 deg day, but not enough for anything colder.
    Took out this one, www.summitracing.com/parts/mar-mm-a1090002
and put in this one www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-991106
The 40k btu is the same one I have in the tan cj5. It does fine. We'll see how this works in the 6:flag:
Did I mention that I hate cold weather.

Just a word of caution here. That Wilwood proportioning valve will do exactly what they say it will. The problem is that it will do the same exact thing every time you apply the brakes, when the traction coefficient changes, (think rain slicked pavement, or loose gravel) the rear brakes will lock at the same “knee point” or preset pressure. When you have to baby the brakes on slick pavement the rear brakes will act exactly as they do without the valve. The best solution will always be properly sized front and rear master cylinders matched to the braking rate of the front and rear wheel cylinders. Ask me how I know.

Even with appropriately sized master and wheel cylinders a proportioning valve or valves will help take a linear line and form a curve that allows even braking without locking the rears in a panic stop. If your wheel cylinders are your only control device you are loosing a lot of meat under the curve. Take an FC on a panic stop there is no weight on the rear so by just sizing wheel cylinders you would have nothing from the rear when you are casually driving. This will also wear the fronts out rapidly.

Basically it has a 76 cj5 disc/drum braking system. Even has the non adjustable proportioning valve. All this is under an Ecj5 frame with a glass flatfender body. It's " over braked" the weight just isn't there and the rears lockup very easy. I've nearly lost control twice and it has enough other white knuckle quirks related to power / size / weight.

It leaks I quit. Maybe it's leaking from the oil gallery plugs or cam plug. Only one way to know....

I made a mental promise to my Jeep today to buy a new front driveshaft. Installing the locker the other day and rotating the driveshaft, I realize the shaft isn't true any longer. It's got quite the wobble to it. Don't know when that happened. The last time we had it offroad I don't remember crawling over anything that would have tweaked it. Anyway, just need to measure my stock shaft and get on the Tom Woods website. Another of those things that will be invisible to others but will make me admire the Jeep even more knowing it's there.

Got my harness in to plug my M1225 Motorola in the CJ into my intercom system. I won't have PTT and headset microphone capability but I can hear the radio though the headset and use the handmic to talk back out.
