    Notches. We Don't Need No Stinking Notches.

    I made my own with half inch plate. I also used rubber tube instead if the Welting.

    FWIW the notches on my unmolested ‘56 CJ5 both face down with vacuum wiper for driver, manual wiper on passenger side

    Whatever works. If it makes it easier to put the top or bikini top on, then that is for me. It also appears that the factory didn't have a standard
    way of installing them. Like said before, unless you knew to look, you would not even know.

    Agreed. Even though I now know mine are upside down, I'm leaving them that way because its' soooo much easer to put the top on.
