I pulled the ross steering system out of a 1970 CJ5 with a factory V6 and I need to know the steering column tube length. The tube was rotted in half where the clamp was at the dash. I have a new tube that seems to be longer than the original, so before I guess at the length, I'd rather check here first.

Column tube is exactly 34" on a '68 V6 Ross system.

Mind if I ask where did you find your column? I can’t find one on the net.

I think I got it from Walcks (which is no longer with us) or Kaiser Willys.

The tube itself is 20ga 1.5"od so 3' of stainless exhaust tubing should work with a trim and a slit on the bottom end.

QTM has them, and I have used one from them. The listing says 34 1/2" so would be for a 49-71 Jeep. The steering box I had was from a 3A or later and the tube fit fine without any trimming.

Here’s a picture of my steering column from 1971 cj5. It was manufactured Sept 1970
    The length is 34 1/4”
