For another example, I have used this one a a few projects, one of which was used on my CJ3B and I had shortened it about 2 3/4" for use with a Saginaw manual steering box conversion. It uses a sleeve coupler and TRE on the pitman arm end.

I used a later cj drag link on my other flatfender project. Shortened it and sourced the die to thread it further.

For the drag link on both my CJ and the Willys pickup, I purchased pre threaded tube and 2 tre's.

That is the same thing I originally did for my 3B. Bought an intermediate tie rod and an 11/16-18 RH tap. I ran that tap all the way until the tap bottomed in the RH threads so when I shortened it up, I still had threads to start the tap in again. Used that tie rod for almost 40 years.

This go-around, it received Ruff-Stuff threaded inserts welded into 1 1/2 x 1/4 DOM tube, 7/8-18 TRE's. Probably overkill on a light Jeep.

I used 1" OD x .188" wall (.624" ID) DOM tubing. .632" is the tap drill size for 11/16-18. .624" was close enough. No need to drill any larger.
Just need to make sure to get the taps started straight.

thanks guys....pretty sure the 32" J-series drag link I posted is a direct replacement for what I need (note - this is on the 58 wagon not the CJ, so much wider axle and 2 hole knuckle). Its probably not the beefiest ever, but for this application it'll be fine for now. Don't think I could source the materials to build one for under $40.

After further research, it seemed the drag link maybe had been modified by the PO - or at least I couldn't find a suitable length replacement. So I went with a new 32" drag link and two new Moog TREs....got the drag link from Speedway and some RH and LH thread jam nuts:

Final product looks really good....fits perfectly....sorry, only got a pic of one end. Put the Moog TRE on the the tie rod as well....side note - completed rebuild of the passenger side knuckle and just ignore the caliper bracket - that is for another thread.
