Have my jeep runnin pretty good, but it like's runnin so well that it keeps on runnin after I turn the key off.

I've been reading that I need a diode.
I've looked on the Rock Auto site, and their diodes are mounted on the alternator, I think. lol

From what I've gathered there should be an inline diode that will take care of the run-on.

Can anybody tell me what part that I need?

    Thanks
    Jim

You've got a mistake in your wiring someplace, seems like the alternator output is hooked into something on the wrong side of your ignition switch.

What engine, what alternator, how stock is the harness?

Are you in a hurry? I could mail you one. I bought a pack of them years ago because I couldn’t find just one.

Just curious about this… my service manual mentions an “engine run on” symptom could be caused by “excessive engine idle speed in combination with retarded ignition timing”.

Would this be a possible cause?

it says if this issue is experienced on V-6 engine equipped vehicle, installation of Idle Stop Valve Kit part no 991722 will correct the difficulty

If the engine keeps running after you turn the key to the off position, , it could be an electrical issue with the alternator exciter wire. It’s called alternator feedback. A simple fix is adding a diode OR adding a small dash bulb on the exciter wire.

dieseling is completely different, that’s a timing issue

Take a cellphone video of it running on and pull the two wire Alternator plug if it has one.

I use an "alternator" dash light in the exciter wire on mine as well. You will need a light socket with two wires that does not get its ground thru its base.

Exactly what I did! Went to Napa and got the 2 wire socket (base is made of silicone) It fit right into the original speedo Amp socket!

If you have an ignition switch with an accesories post you can run your #2 wire to that post and it will stop feeding back to your ignition.
