For some reason, I've been thinking about extending the stock Jeep skidplate to provide protection for the transfer case mounted parking brake. Has anyone done this? Pics?

Yes, I did this after I hung up the drum on a rock. I made a small extra crossmember to add more support and prevent it from folding since it extends so far behind the main crossmember. I'll post some pictures soon.

Remove the parking brake and go with the Brennans ee brake or 11" drums. :D

Sorry, someone had to say it.

x2, get 11" rear drums and have real emergency brakes like 30 million or so other cars from the 60 & 70's. That's my plan anyways.

I welded up one out of 1/4" 6061 for my 3B. It has a rear extension for the e brake drum and the front is secured by a stud off the rear of the oil pan skid plate. That connection has urethane bushings so it can flex. The e brake drum no longer exists on that Willys so the drum dimple is going to get shaved.

I used 3/16" plate. Spaced down 3/8" from the original crossmember. If I was going to do it again, I would extend the angle iron braces all the way around the perimeter, mainly to discourage the front half from folding up.

I've been looking at something like this since bellyflopping onto some concrete.
Definitely an angle iron parameter with an additional crossmember front and back.

No written plans but I pretty much just copied the shape of the original skid plate with a little extra length and the extra upward lip at the back. The extra crossmember is lined up to bolt into existing holes that were in my frame. The square tube 1.25" but not sure of the thickness. Angle is 1.25" x 1/4". The material choice was mostly driven by what was handy in the scrap pile.

So I was a little confused about the Brennan's Garage product listing. I emailed him about it & this was his response.

    Hello,

I do have an additional skidplate that can cover the e-brake drum, but to be frank, I don't like the general idea. The additional skidplate makes the overall length long enough that leverage becomes a pretty big concern and hard to control. There really needs to be an additional bracket built from the rear of the additional e-brake skid to the frame rail. There are just too many variables to do that on my end and ends up being a bit too clunky for me.

I will sell the additional ebrake skidplate for $40 if you want to purchase one with the skidplate.

Personally, I would delete the factory e-brake and move it to the rear axle with my EEbrake kit.

If you would like the e-brake skid please leave a note on your order and I will add it to your order and send it back for payment.

    Regards

    Brennan Metcalf

you do get a good bit more clearance if you remove the T-case brake.

Ask about a $40 part get a $250 answer and you still have to make outriggers.

I have the tiniest of extensions off the back of my crossmember that covers the lowest part of the TCase. Hole to drain the oil.
