Cam choice is difficult without knowing what performance you are looking for. There are unknowns such as performance desired, compression ratio,
vacuum for brakes, torque converter, rear axle ratio, valve springs being used, carburation, etc. The two 2 listed would be very mild over the stock
    configuration.

so I need to do more research? If it’s just a tad better than stock, then why bother ?

G'mornin~ guess I'll pass on the cam for now, didn't really want to pull the intake back off anyway. I'm going to flush the coolant/water today, then re-run the engine once more(cause it's fun ), then place it on the engine stand~ yep, that's what I'm gonna dooooo :coffee:, it's going to be a great day :bananatool:

Comp Cams has a recommendation form that you can fill out in the link below. Chances are your engine is stock compression ratio for a 76' valiant, should be easy enough to look up factory compression ratio. Even if the engine was rebuilt at some point, it is likley that the compression ratio is still very close to stock.

    https://www.compcams.com/cam-recommendation-form

Your working with an engine that only made 150 HP from the factory.
It would be a shame to do all this work to the car just to install an engine that puts out less hp than a Toyota Corolla.

What can I say, there the engine is ready to do what I want to do to it. Eventually it will be prettied up. Kind of tired today and I'm going to take a break;)

I had a 76 powerwagon, club cab adventurer, heavy half ton, with the 318. We added 4 inch lift. It needed the stance.

with an edlebrok intake, 4-bbl (rochester iirc) and an iski cam it went pretty well. Redline was around 4500. These three things made a difference. Not street racing difference obviously, but a difference.

idled around 750, made great torque, could walk faster than it idled in 4wd low, granny.

    pulled good, sounded good.

would top out around 100mph i found (not sure how many bolts vibrated loose and fell out tho).

it liked to drink gas. Got about 10. 14 if i unbolted the front driveline.

had to put the boat anchor intake on it with the stock 2b carb and air cleaner when i sold it. It still would turn the wheels, but noticeable difference using the butt in seat dyno slip… or may be that was the clutch slipping also… hmmm. Left the stable about 35 years ago.

What's the verdict? There's another thing I didn't bring up, but when I went to remove the oil filter, hardly any oil came out of it, usually makes a mess when unscrewing right? ok, going to go get ice cream;)

The crank may polish up but those bearings with gold showing through are ready. You’re in it this far.
A far as can choice I ran that exact cam in my old f100 Cleveland in high school, comp high energy 260h. It was a nice little cam, with noticeably better than stock performance. And produced a slight hot rod lope at idle.
I don’t know about mopar but I know Fords tend to like split pattern cams. In fact engine masters tested this theory and split was better. And the specs are so close between the two, and both should produce good idle vacuum, I’d lean extreme serious myself.
