You mean grind the valves? If so, I did not. No need to I believe.....

I won't be back cutting. I'm keeping things simple here folks.....I'm confident that I have a better than factory mating surface, or I hope,

    Certainly looks good.

My learning was from the 1925 Dykes Automobile Encyclopedia. I recall the old way of checking was to make a series of radial pencil lines on the valve, give it a partial turn on the seat - then check to see if all the lines were equally rubbed off. Thus verifying full concentricity.

In a similar vein, the hand cranked valve lapping tools would only do a reciprocating partial rotation, and you were supposed to lift and reset the valve to multiple positions - to guard against developing an out-of-round seat.

I have no idea if that is still the program.

Didn't venture into work today. Clobbered with snow which began late yesterday. 10" so far and still snowing moderately. Power went out about 7:00 AM and it appears that this storm damage is much more wide spread than the last one. Windy. This is very heavy/wet stuff and I HATE April nor'easters. Our road is again closed with wires down. It may be a while before things are restored but at least I have some limited connectivity and ability to charge devices. We're good keeping warm with the wood stove and plenty of food and other things to keep us entertained. I'm going to BBQ some chicken later on.

I've sent an AC civvy fuel pump to scoutpilot last week for a refresh. I've also been in touch with Mark down at Beachwood Canvas regarding new seat covers and other misc. minor parts I haven't been able to find elsewhere. Yes, Beachwood is expensive but they do things right the first time around. I understand that Shaun (blalp!) is coming this Saturday to turn some wrenches and I'm hoping to get the engine work wrapped up shortly.

Progress will continue with or without electricity. An inconvenience but not a deal breaker by any stretch. More soon....Pete

I got some from these folks for my M38. Happy with their service and the cushions look good.

Same here. Can't go beyond the end of my driveway due to wires down. And my dead-end back road will not be high priority for the utility crew.

Running on generator power to send this post, which I use just enough to keep the household systems alive. I have food I canned myself. And after the last storm I completely re-habbed all my kerosene lamps, so I'm good. In an 1890 kind of way. :D

I'm down in Hudson for the week, and we lost power at about 7am too. Still snowing moderately and fairly windy, but not as bad as this morning. Stay safe and warm up there!

Are you “home” for the eclipse? Looks like the meteorologists scheduled some nice weather for us.

No, we have spring break this week in Virginia, so we'll be heading back home tomorrow. I wish we could stay until the 8th, but have to get back to work. This power outage is really putting a damper on things, especially after my dad accidentally left 2 space heaters (3000 watts combined) on and drained their tesla powerwall battery backup before even one night. Whomp whomp

I was thinking about sending you and Blalp! a PM, but with the storm we've been hunkering down. I'll be back up in August though, and would love a visit then!

In my case, I'm now able to go out! I had to plow the town road for the utility trucks to get in, so then they could fix the wires.

Did you get a lot of arborist jobs from this event?

Yes, I bagged about a ten days worth of work for the guys. I was proactively checking on a number of our regular accounts. Most of it in Moultonborough but some in Wolfeboro. Tree work is no longer my primary function but I roll up my sleeves when necessary. There are people who are going to be out for quite a while yet. We're lucky. The fellows that got us restored were from Ohio...GO BUCKEYES...! Nice guys, very professional.

I'll explain the reason I'm going with Beachwood (without overly justifying). They offer 3" covers and cushions rather than the standard 5". I'm going to use a ventilating windshield so I need the reduced height so I can {hopefully} see (I'm 6' 2"). I also do not wish to use the original bottom front seat springs since they're not as comfortable as pin core cushions. I have seat pans BTW. The spring setup also wears out the covers more quickly, especially in the front. Beachwood is supporting my use the NOS front upper and original rear seat springs. I also have an NOS rear/upper cover so I just need the lower cover, along with padding and batting which they will also support. This is not a cookie cutter job. I have bought from odcloth.com in the past. They do great work, nothing against them but in this time around, it just makes sense. I promise pictures of the upholstery work when the time comes. Please be patient since the frames need to be blasted and Beachwood works at the pace that they do.....
