Get a radiator comb and straighten all the fin on the radiator it's amazing how much air flow is diminished by just a few bent over one's.

Update on this project. Still haven't received the 7 blade fan I ordered over a month ago. I did pull the radiator and straightened the fins. I also modified the fan shroud that I had sitting around and installed it. put back on the 5 blade fan I had. Also added water wetter to the mix. I did change out to the Robertshaw 160 thermostat. Tuned carburetor and set timing to 12*. Getting mixed results.
It was 84* out today and I took JEEP out for 60 mile run down highway and back roads.

this was going down freeway at 60-65 mph 175*:

Slowed down for some country roads to about 40mph, 180*

Dropped it into granny low and just let it idle down the levee road, this was after 5-7 minutes, 190*.

    After 10 minutes 205*.

it did reach 210* after about 15 minutes. As soon as I hit 2nd gear and was running 7-8 mph and getting rpm’s up above 1500 it cooled back to 185-190*. I didn’t hook up the electric fan for this trip, but I need to do that to see where that puts the tempature.

What condition is your water pump in? I had a truck that only ran hot when running under 15 mph. Heavy steel fan blade in a good shroud, with a good brass radiator. Months later, the water pump started leaking, so I pulled it off to change it out. It had a stamped steel impeller, and nearly all the vanes were rusted off/dissolved from rust. At higher rpm, it pushed enough water (no antifreeze) to cool things, but at low rpm, didn’t circulate very well.
    Maybe a long shot?
