The plastic tank (MTS ) that I got along with my 65 looks to have a stripped groove where the gas cap prongs thread into to tighten the cap.
Anyone else ran into this or have a solution to keep the cap tight?
    Plastic tanks kinda suck...

I have a MTS plastic tank in my CJ5 which I installed nearly two years ago. The gas cap has always been a little difficult to lock, and the notches are getting a little chewed up, so I'll probably have a similar issue at some point. I have been thinking that I might be able to fit the steel fitting from an old gas tank into the plastic filler pipe.

Possibly you can do some plastic welding with a solder gun and some zipties?

Its always been recommended to use an original cap rather than an aftermarket one. I think I still had to do a little shaping to clean up the threads and get it working right when I did my tanks but I havnt had any change since fitting them 15 years ago.

I just got a new MTS tank a short while back and noticed the same problem. I can get the cap on but have to be very gentle. May be worth looking at a fix before I install it.
