Pedals

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by Timothy Bierley, May 8, 2024.

  1. I have the jeep body off and in the rotisserie. I am wanting to go with swinging pedals and power brake booster. What type on pedals should I be looking for.

I cut the section of firewall that held the pedals from a YJ. That helped to get everything into the correct spot. I took the pedal assembly, brake and clutch master cylinders at the same time. Its a bit of work but worth the effort.

Starting on Page 24 of my build, its pretty thorough about what we did.

The hard parts were trimming the pedal assembly to fit and attach to the back of the dash. Then cutting down and bending the pedal arms to get into the exact correct position.

Hopefully others will give some input. This was one of my first big modification experience and we have folks here who have done this several times I’m sure. I’ve seen XJ pedals used as well. Others use kits made for hot rod builds from Summit Racing.

Search the Build section of the forums for key words. “hanging pedals” “pedal swap “ “Willwood”. Member Warlock has pedals in his build for sure (and a LOT more experience than me).

  5. This built is for my wife. She likes driving my M38A1 but the pedals are a pain to her. Here is a picture of my M38A1 I finished last year.

I don't know which ones you should use, but I have 72-75 pedals and a firewall plate from a 76. Ron

I've mocked up and temporarily installed late 90's xj pedals, which seem to be a great fit. I ultimately decided to stop my project creep and just keep the stock pedals for now.

I asked Cynthia yesterday if she wanted to wheel it this year. She’s not going to risk her new paint.

We sometimes go through Arkansas into central Kansas. Not so close to St Louis. I’ll bet Rich comes that way.
