electric wiper kit

    Have any of you guys installed the electric wiper conversion kit from Krage JeepDoc on a Willys Jeep? I'm trying to mount them however, the shafts appear to be kinda long on the motor, looks like the motor would have to set back away from the windshield frame about three inches which makes mounting them and their looks not so pleasing? If anybody has these mounted I would appreciate a picture.

    3 inches? Are you sure it's not for some kind of bottom mount conversion?

    You can disassemble the motor and cut down the shafts.

    But...IMHO if you really need wipers just send it back for your $$ back. It won't last long under normal use, and all it will do is move the water around vs. actually getting it off the window.

    Search around and you'll find some better ideas on wipers from the marine world.

    I have the same motor with the long shaft. I haven't done anything with it, it's been on the bench for 3 years. I bought it for inspection but never put it on. I did think about cutting it.

    Yup. Cut 'em if you're gonna use 'em. Then throw them away. They also come with some really cheesy blades that turn rock hard and scratch the snot outa the windshield. AMHIK. (Mine were from years before Krage's came around)

    Back in the late 1970's, I bought 2 old 2A's from a guy and there were two 6 volt conversion wiper motors that were in a box with other stuff. The 2A I already had, still had the one vacuum wiper that was getting kind of sad. So I put the electrics on and used the 6 volt even though I had already changed to 12 volt. I had to cut the shafts down. I used a tubing cutter on the thread, then a saw on the shaft which needed to stick out past the shaft about 3/8". The wiper blades were awful, but those two motors were on that thing for the 18 years that I owned it and went through many a rain storm. Never smoked 'em even though they were 6 volt motors. I wouldn't suggest this as a way to do this job, but it goes to show that even el cheapo's can do a job to some level.

    Well, I cut the shafts down and they mount up nice now. I would agree however, that the blades themselves leave a little to be desired. The motors seem to be a pretty nice unit, I may see how the blades work out and look for a replacement for them if necessary. The arms apply good downward pressure, but the blade itself is a little cheap.
