Walcks' 4WD is always my choice. Why do you think your radiator is shot? Maybe it just needs rodded out? A radiator shop should be able to fix it up. A recore should be much cheaper.

Are you sure it is the radiator? Sure it could be part of the problem. We have discussed this before. Do you have a heater? Are your hoses hooked up from the water pump to the cylinder head or are they capped off? Do you have a small bypass hosefrom the water pump to the very front of the head or is that capped off?

I had the same problem until I realized that I was missing the small bypass hose and I also hooked up the two other hoses to the head to keep it running cooler.

Here are a few pics of the bypass hose and the heater hoses just in case.

Before I'd do anything else I'd backflush the cooling system with a cheapie Prestone kit and then I'd swap out the thermostat. Shouldn't run you more than $15. Also try changing out the cap. If all of those fail then move on to the next step, pull the radiator and have it checked/cleaned and then if you still have problems I'd change out the water pump. Not much left after that.

I don't even know what those are, but bottom line is with your cooling system in good shape you won't need anything other than the proper ratio of antifreeze/coolant and water mix.

I have heard good things about water wetter but this will not solve your problem. Water wetter is intended to be used in a properly functioning cooling system not to correct a failing one. Use this type of product once you've looked into what the other replys have encouraged.

i went to start my system flush today and found the following thing wrong. the lack of a themostat. the last guy to own it didnt run one. i also broke 2/3 of the bolts on the housing. this sucks. but i think that the water passed thru the radiator so fast that it didnt have time to cool.

A thermostats purpose is to bring an engine up to a certain temperature for operation. Generally the lack of one makes an engine run cooler, so when you get one installed let's see what happens. Make sure it has the little hole in it to eliminate air pockets.
