Did while you had the plugs pulled you turn the motor over to get any water that might have gotten into the cylinders out? Other then that maybe some switches might not be happy.

With the plugs out - pour some MMO in the cyls and turn it over slow by hand. Helps lube the walls and keep the rings from rusting to the walls while it sits.

When my flattie got in over her head I had to change all the fluids, t case, transmission, both diffs and engine oil, don't forget the brake fluid, it retains moisture and will rust the entire system from the inside. The engine oil and gear oil will appear milky as long as water is present, in my situation it took 2 changes to clear it up.

Get motor running ASAP in order to dry out the crankcase, may have to remove plugs several times to dry them out. Spray electrical contact cleaner into distrib, let it dry then fire that mutha up. Change out all fluids and oils.

Don't forget the heater and wiper motors and the steering column bearings. knuckles, Speedo cable, steering assembly, and a complete chassis lube. Might also try to get a garden hose in past the cluch fork and flush any silt out of the bellhousing.

the funny/painful thing is i cant get the jeep off the trail yet. its too muddy to get it out. i'm going to have to wait unitl thurs to get a 4x4 tractor. its killing me to have it sit, but at least its out of the water. what weight fluids should i use for the first couple miles before i flush it all out again? anything better than others?

I'd pull the plugs and turn it over where it stands. At least get that water out of the cylinders.

If all the valves were shut and all cylinders were on compression stroke maybe ,,,, but since that is not possable some air will get into some cylinders so rust is occuring as we speak. i would flush it were it stands.

sorry to hear about your Jeep
flooded vehicles are a real challenge
water, mud, silt, rocks, can/will get into everything
if it's been under this long, I'd be leery of even cranking it over
the cylinders could be full of the same
you might get the water out, but not the mud
brakes, gauges, the list just goes on and on.....

the fluids cheep chang sevral times. I would drain the engine oil before cranking. after changing the oil I would crank the engine over by hand with no spark plugs in it then wd40 the cyl throuh the plug holes. now I would crank with starter several times before I try to start it. when Igot it started I would only run for 30 sec. or so and recheck the engine oil for water. You dont want to run the motor very long without chnging trans and tcase oil because they have part that will turn with the motor.
Good luck try to get water out of every thing as soon as posible to avoid more dammage and $$$.

Real simple - if water got in there - air can get in there. That is what I was talking about putting MMO in the cyls. I have seen the rings flash rust to the cyl walls in as little as a day, even here in dry CO.

i got it out of the woods today. about 1 gallon of water came out of the oil pan. i dried the cap, cleaned the carb, changed the oil, and turned the key...no spark. so i'm new plugs tomm and pulling a good coil from another jeep to try again. all the lights work. the motor turned well with no funny stuff. a lot of water came out of the exhaust.
