I'm getting my frame blasted tomarrow, oops I mean today an am woundering what to prime it with to keep surface rust off it? I still have some welding to do on it and was thinking of maby boxing the frame so didn't want to spend big bucks on "temperary" primer right nowbut would hate my fram to turn brown. It will be stored in a heated garage. I dont want to put a cheap primer on it if it will make the paint not hold up as well later. Also What about that POR15 is it worth it and do I still need to paint over it? IS Tractor paint just as good? Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks.

i think the best primer is epoxy primer as for por-15 my frame will be seeing it soon as i am done takeing off all the rust with a die grinder with a wire bruch attatchment. on top of the por-15 i will have some kind of paint because the por-15 does not mix well with UV light

Use a etching primer on bare metal Xim makes one thats also a sealer.

Use a good sealing primer, rattle can Duplicolor is OK or any good sealer at the local paint and body jobber. I'd do a good three coats and it will store fine.
Self etching primer is not necessary on a sandblasted surface.
POR-15 is great stuff, but expensive and must be topcoated to prevent UV damage. Once again it is not necessary on a sandblasted surface (shouldn't be any rust to worry about).:v6:

I've had good luck with Benjamin Moore low lustre metal paint. It's self priming. One coat is comparable to at least 2 coats of rustoleum on top of primer.

Hey thanks for the replys! I just got back with my frame, clean and SWEET! no rust or grime. Now that its clean I'm thinking I'll box the frame? After talking to the auto body guy I think I go with a urathane paint and not skimp after all this work.
