Well I think I may have found an L head for my 2a but it is in an old military generator. Is this the same motor used in the flatfenders?
    Thanks

yes and no, check the numbers on the block. military had chain-driven cams along with the first few cjs, then they switched to gear-driven. it probably would work either way. just up to you. post some pics and we can help more.

Thanks for the replies... I haven't had a chance to see the genset yet. It belongs to one of our jeep club members. But was told it was a Willys L head motor on it.. I might be willing to trade it if it is what you are looking for, as long as I get a good one in return.
I still don't know what I will do with the generator, all I want is the motor. Anyway, I will snap some pics when I go look at it.

hang on to the genny, and sell it,i have two m38a1's and these gennys are 24volt water proof, some one rebuilding a military vehicle will jump at the chance to get it,hell you may get as much out of the genny as you pay for the motor

I think you may have misunderstood.. It's not a generator mounted on an L head, it's a full size generator that uses the L head to power it. Kind of like they used them on pumps.

Haven't had a chance to see it yet so not sure of what voltage it is... Never even thought to ask about that, I just wanted the flathead. I'll let you know when I can go up to Phoenix and look at it..

Depending on the vintage and condition, it might have a good market value in the Military Vehicle Preservation world, if it's the real deal in good shape, etc. Maybe even without the engine. Some of those guys strike me as a little eccentric, with deep pockets....
