the factory manual picture isn't exactly clear where it attaches on the carb. the p.o. had detached mine and i've had zip-tied to the choke cable, i don't see any bracketry on the carb. to attach it to. thanks.

This is a Carter YF for an F-head setup. The cable sheath is clamped to the rear (outer) cable clamp. The line to the carb passes down to the lower bracket that the throttle rod also attaches to. It goes straight through the hole and has a barrel attached to it, so it can pull the throttle open. Otherwise, the bracket merely moves with the throttle rod and the hand cable stays still. Clear as mud? Need a different pic? Just holler, I'll try to explain it better.

On my 59 I see there is also a hand throttle knob
What it its pourpes? besides acting as a throttle if I have a gas pedal,
Is it for warming up the engin so you dont keep you foot on the pedal?

I know this is an old thread, but maybe my info could be of use to someone.

My Baby didn't have a hand throttle when I bought it in June ... just an empty housing for it on the dash. I finally got her tuned up to my liking ... idle about 600 ... she'll go to ~500 but, you know. She doesn't really want to stay running upon start up so the hand throttle works great for that ... also very nice to set about 1000 rpm in lo range when patrolling my property.

I bought a T handle model off ebay ($14 - not proud of price). I found that a #10 machine screw fit the throttle plate arm nicely so, I driiled a hole thru the screw crossways to acceot the cable. I used a nylock nut to tighten the screw to the throttle arm so the screw still swiveled. I put one of those cable-end screw-lock thingys to secure the cable end.

    Works great, very handy

Edit: Oh, I forgot, I decided to attach the cable sheath to the plug wire thingy ... seemed to be a good alignment. Just bent up some aluminum sheetmetal for the anchor.

Here's a few. That flat, homemade-looking steel plate on the throttle shaft is a stock item, the hand throttle cable goes through the hole in that plate and has a clamp on the wire on the other side. The bracket that mounts to the carb body that both throttle and choke cables clamp to is the hard one to find.
