Have stock 225 plan is to rebore an do a little upgrade offy intake and cliffard headers for the 231 ( I was told they should fit stock 225 ) The jeep is a period piece 3 speed dana 18 warn OD ramsey PTO winch the seats are from a 71ish the look I wanted was something I could have built in the early 70s late 60s

I am 1,000s of $$$ into this so far and now I get this idea to replace the 225 with a 95 3800II L36

I have seen 3800 LN3's fitted to jeeps I have not seen the newer motors.

I plan on selling this jeep when done but I am also starting up a motor building shop that will specialize in adding fuel injection to older cars it seams at odds with my business plan to keep the stock 225 running a carb.

Here is my question is there a market for a 68 CJ5 with a L36 or should I keep my vision clear with only late 60's tech or maybe run a holley TBI under the stock air cleaner.

If you want a period look putting a latemodel V6 in it will definitely change the old school look. I Installed a megasquirt system on my 225 and didn't change the look of the motor all that much because I used a 4.3L TBI unit. With any EFI swap though you will have more wiring. If you ever want to put it back to the old carb you still can.

By "market for it" do you mean "will I make a profit on it"?

You'll likely find a buyer...but will never see a return on your investment, IMHO.

    :iagree:

These are hobby cars, not collectibles or hot rods. The market won't support resale at a profit.

If this is a front wheel drive 3800 you will have lots of problems fitting it to the Jeep.
The 225 will have superior torque and hp for a Jeep over the modern motors that make there power at much higher rpm's.
As far as fuel injection stick with a stock 4.3 TBI and forget the Holley unit and go with megasquirt, it is far more user friendly and will work on anything. The MS controlller is not engine or model specific and will run anything from 1-12 cylinders odd or even fire.

Any time you modify anything you've narrowed the potential market for a buyer. Turning a profit on a "completed" JEEP is going to be difficult at least. Your business plan itself could be successful for you since you're focusing on a segment of a market with a specific product. :)

thanks I not really looking to get a profit from this jeep as I got in too deep from day one before I had a 1,000 miles on it I had to replace
    1)the transmission
    a)Case
    b)input shaft
    c)a gear or 2
    d)bearings and normal rebuild stuff
    2)The transfer case
    a) Bearings
    b) specially hardened intermediate shaft from novak
    c) other soft parts as needed
    3) Rear axle replaced the whole thing added a limited slip.
After a 1,000 miles it was clear the rod bearing were shot
    Replaced the rod bearings.
    Replace the water pump.

After that I have put a few 1,000 miles on it trouble free but the compression is low and I did not like to looks of the crank.

I just picked up a low mile Warn overdrive as the sun gears on mine were GONE

So I know I will never get my money out of it but it would be nice to see the project to the end.

I was planing on using a megasquirt to fire the holley when I was looking for a 4.3 TBI I found the newer 3800 but no 4.3s TBIs there was lots of holley TBI cores there.

My latest score was a set of 68 fenders that are in good condition
