Brake Booster Mystery

    I am trying to figure out my brake mess. My brother-in-law just started cutting lines when he initially took the Jeep apart, now I seem to ave a mess. At one point, probably when the 231 was swaped in a power assist brake booster was added after the stock MC. At the same time the out let on the MC the went to the rear was crimped over and the front lines and rear lines were plumbed into a T and one line runs upto the assist booster and one line runs down to the MC output. So both front and rear are on online essentially. Now My BIL told me that the brakes worked really good before he started taking this Jeep apart, so upgrading right now is not in the budget, maybe next summer, I need to get this thing moving before the snow starts falling.

    So I have attached a(not so good)picture of the booster(says Midland on top), I tried to take better pictures but I only have my work camera which takes(high res) photos than I am able to attach, wifey has the other camera. With only one input and one output on the booster, I am wondering which is which. There is on on the end and one near the diaphram. Any good guesses would help on which is which. Also i was thinking about reconnecting the rear line back to its output on the MC and just having the front on the booster, whatcha think. Thanks Bob

    P.s. the picture is pretty old too, that is just after I picked up the Jeep, it is just a little cleaner now. Oh, I almost forgot I put it on Jackstands and ran it through the gears.....yeah yeah, my T90 rebuild worked, man I really want to drive this Jeep.

    Looks like a hydrovac (?) to me... somebody here will know about it. I think it's a boosted slave cylinder to the original master cylinder. Not stock, clearly.

    Maybe the hydrovac powers the front and rear brakes from a single cylinder. There has to be something to activate the hydrovac, so one of the factory brake lines goes to the hydrovac.

    If this is a '55, the factory cylinder has only one circuit that powers both front and rear brakes. This is different from what you might be used to, ie a master cylinder with a separate front and rear cylinder. These dual master clinders didn't appear until sometime around 1967.

    tim thanks for the response. It is a '55 and I was under the impression that it only had one output on the MC but when I was under there I say another fittinf that had a small piece of tubing coming out that looked crimped over and brazed or something so it confused me a little:?

    I guess my biggest question with this booster is which is the input and output, there is one on the end and one need the diaphram. thanks Bob
