At the PA Jeeps show a few weeks ago, I saw a guy who pulled a complete diesel set up out of an early XJ (Cherokee, circa '84 to 88 or so)
and stuffed it into a YJ. It was "All Jeep", and he had it set up to burn dino or bio diesel, using two tanks, switch valve, etc. It was a pretty cool set up :)
He had fuel mileage charts... either fuel was giving him 28 mpg.

Given that... I'm sure the same would be do-able in a CJ.

Then there is another guy who runs a Nissan diesel in his CJ7... he's switching to a Cummins CB4 (or whatever that Cummins designator is)
Yopu can find this guy, Jon, on JU in the CJ forum, goes by "Hubdeep"

    I know Hubdeep.

His name is Jason, not Jon. Him and his wife own two YJ's (although one has a CJ clip) and both are gas powered.

    You've got the wrong guy.

According to the books (Chiltons Jeep) they were putting 4 cyl diesels in the dj's for a while. would be an in-family swap.R)
