Oh, by the way...LOOKIT ME LOOKIT ME!!!!

 

3=1979
01=January
C=258 2V
15=15th day

 

Where on the 304 v8 engine is this code?

 

On a tag on the valve cover.

Not be a Johnny Raincloud or anything, but what is the legal issues on this?

I have a title on a jeep but the VIN plate on the dash is missing. The dash sticker was painted over. In the right light, you can make out the impressions of the number so I know the title goes with the jeep tub (frame is newer)

Buy FLorida title guy says the jeep can't be titled to me since the plate is missing and the sticker is unreadable.

The title says "74 Jeep" but no CJ5 or CJ6. It's a 5. The 5 in my avitar.

So is the Vin sticker legal in identifying the jeep? Were there any years the dash plate was used instead of the metal firewall plate?

Not that I know of. AFAIK there was always the firewall plate, and it's the legal ID.

 

It's in the factory manual (hint).

Isn't the VIN also stamped into the passenger side frame rail? I believe I read that somewhere.

 

There used to be a guy in Hemmings motor news that was making repops of the metal vin tag. You sent him a copy of title or reg, orig tag if available, build date, and any other info needed. He would make a tag that looked like orig but readable. Know a guy that got one, left it sit on his porch for the winter to age so it looked more original (not shiny) before he took car to PD for registration.

 

I know this is a very old thread but do you have the info on this guy making the tags Jeep Im about to get has a tag that’s pretty munched up by the PO.
