Ok so I'm installing some new gauges on the Jeep, oil pressure and temperature, while I have it torn apart putting in new timing chain. I bought some aftermarket gauges from FLAPS, generic stuff SHOULD fit everything. Well I got it to fit but was wondering if anyone out there has a better idea to go about it that what I did or is this the standard.

What happened was the new temp probe for one is the same diamater as the old temp sending units hole 1/4 and is 3 times as long. So as the pic shows I just stepped up from 1/4 up to the fitting size I needed. Now the whole thing is about 3 inches tall sticking out of the front of the block. It should work but I am wanting some other ideas about going about this or is this what you gotta do on an old Jeep like this to get it to work. Thanks.

Is there another, larger port in the manifold that you could use?

The temp bulb needs to be in the coolant stream for an accurate temp reading, I would believe that that configuration would read low on temp. The AMC 6 uses a similar electric temp probe with even less room so I ended up using an electric gauge with a similar probe to OEM to fit and it reads right. I have not found a direct reading type that would fit the AMC stock temp probe ports. Good Luck.

I thought about a new thermostat housing, the one I have has the bleader bolt in the back tried to put it there but was completely rusted over, tried to get it off but no go. Thanks for that link I might get that one it looks like it will work and look better than what I have done, probably stronger also. Thanks again.
