I am looking opinions on a kit for a 74 CJ5. I checked all the jeep catalogs and they really dont tell you much other than whats included. Looking to go 2.5 but I might consider 4"

I would consider a spring over kit. I'll send you a link to one.

The eBay ad makes a lot of claims, but extra leverage means extra body roll. Maybe jeeps with the kit in question can go 75 mph straight ahead, but the tradeoff is lateral stability. Think lane change and evasive manuevers. It's those characteristics that forced the Sammy (and indirectly the CJ) off the market. Quoting Engineer Scott: "I canna change the laws of physics."

Any lift will be a trade off between stability, ride harshness, and flex. It's up to you to buy the best compromise that you feel happy and safe with. Most guys here go with a moderate lift (ca 2-2.5") and spring under.

Search - this topic has been discussed back and forth many, many times here.

I recommend a 2.5" lift, maybe a slightly longer shackle. That gives enough room for 33s. Maybe add 1" body lift if you need more room.

As I told Erik, give Bob Supplee a call. You won't be disappointed. :tea:

    bolt on spring over?!?!?

I wouldnt put that on the rig of someone I hated. I've seen welded perches break.

If you drive on the street, I would stray away from going SOA.

I love my soa on teh trails, but on the street is a wandering, bumsteering, body rolling, PITA to drive. But its still fun :D

That's exactly what I have and I'm completely satisfied. 2.5" BDS lift, 33" BFG's, extended shackles from M.O.R.E. and an extra set of pucks under the body.

I bought the Rustys 3inch. Would not recommend that at all! Ended up buying bds 2.5 because the Rustys front springs would not work. Also the black diamond 3 inch looks good. Just my 2 cents.
