    OK

I know that this topic comes up every once and awhile, but with rising cost of fuel, has anyone come up with a decent method of locking/securing thier under seat gas tank fuel caps?

This morning is the second time my fuel has been siphoned off. At least this time I was quick on the diagnosis.

If someone has a part number for an early CJ5. I'd like to know. I tried to find one once a long time ago without success.

The NAPA online site is next to worthless IMHO, I would pick up the phone and call.

For reference the Stant part no. for the stock cap is 10625. If you take the measurements from that cap your FLAPS should be able to macth you up with a locking cap. Stant # 10574 or 10579 should be a good starting point for a locking cap...

My local NAPA says there is no such thing as a locking gas cap for early CJ5.

Been to my local "Things for Jeeps" source to pick up a spare gas cap to modify.

They have an original Jeep Part No. for a locking gas cap #931662 **Discontinued**. Have not been able to verify the number.

    931622 is a typical Kaiser Jeep PN - I'd guess it's a repackaged Stant.

My Cj5 came with a locking cap when I bought it. I figured it was original, but not sure. The cap has a swivel key hole cover on it. It is different from most gas caps of how to use it. You have to use the key to put it back on - to lock it. Also, you cant take the key out of cap unless you put it in "lock". This confuses the gas station attendents here in Oregon since we cant pump our gas. I just end up doing it myself.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

the part number is good/original number
    been discontinued since about 1978/1979
once in a blue moon, you will see one on ebay
if brand new, $60 or more is not uncommon

Tell 'em you want a motorad cap. part# MGC-771 (that fits my Sixty) or part# 91 fits a '63.

Didn't know the filler necks were different, thought they were all the same from '55 to '71.
    Learn something new every day.

http://www.motoradusa.com/catalog.html and click on the online catalog link and fill in year make and model. For '63, it wants universal instead of CJ5 or 6.

Or try CarQuest instead of NAPA or Checkers or Autozone. Or maybe O'Riellys (sp?)

OK the MotoRad MGC91 arrived yesterday and does not fit. Not even close. Way too small. Cross refence numbers with Stant and Napa won't apply either, from above.

    Oh well....

I'll look into getting some through work if anyone is interested. Otherwise, if we can't, I'll atleast get the manufacturer's info and pass it along.
