I have a rear fuel tank that needs to be replaced. The gas cap is located on the rear drivers side behind the tire. The tank I have now fits between the frame rail and cross members, behind the rear axle. Any idias were to find one that will work.

The tank from a 72-75 CJ or from a 76-on CJ has the filler on the passenger side, so it's likely not one of those. Does it look like a factory-style tank (ie stamped from two pieces of steel and welded at a single seam)? If so, it might be a Wrangler (YJ?) tank - IIRC they have the filler neck at the driver's side and will fit in that location. Someone here had an unknown used tank like that, which we thought probably came from a Wrangler. The possible hangup might be if the tank needs an in-tank fuel pump for EFI; the opening on top won't fit anything but its expensive high pressure fuel pump without some adapting. You might be able to use a '87-90 YJ tank, since those had a carburetor and would likely use a conventional fuel sender to fill the hole in the top.

    hth!

The tank is square, possibly an after market tank from the 70's.

Considered taking it to a radiator shop for repair?

The problem is that there is a baffle broken off on the inside of the tonk that has broken the pick up tube. The tank is square and no way to get inside without cutting a large hole.

Trailquest use to carry a square style fuel tank, but I do not see it there anymore.

I have a rear gas tank like you are talking about. The baffle in side did the same thing. I could ever get the baffle back into position either. I just cleaned the inside and add gas tank sealer. When that dried it glue the baffle to the bottom of the tank. No problems since. Larry

if you were to use a tank for 72 and up, isn't it possible to just turn it around so the filler is on the drivers side? The po of my 67 had a rear tank in it also and the filler neck was on the drivers side. a little lower than the one in your pic though.
