bikini top

has anybody bought a bikini top lately.my straps broke and the cost is kinda high for repair. where do most people go to get one? also, mine has snaps on the edge of the top that snaps to the window frame,is that the way most most tops are or a add on? thanks. bob

 

Mine did that last year about this time.
Loads of fun at 50 mph and that thing flapping up and down and beating me about the head and shoulders.R)

I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a set of the hold down straps without the ratchets and the heavy duty tarp clamps for camping and covering your load and such. I spaced four of the clamps evenly across the back of the bikini top and ran one strap from the drivers corner back to the left rear foot man loop to the inner right footman loop and then up the inner drivers side clamp. Did the opposite for the passenger side.

My bikini top goes into a channel across the front of the windshield.

 

I've had several and they all had a snap on each side of the window frame

 

If just in need of repair of straps, I'd use a cheapo "sail makers awl".

If a new one, it seems eBay usually has them for ~$40.

 

mine has the channel and the snaps on the side of the top,sorry i wasn't clear about that.i just got back from ebay the best i can do over there is 54.00.i'll look around some more and see what i come up with.bob

 

Yes, though fishing line is usually monofiliment and slips easily, though works with good knots. A "carpet" needle and "carpet" thread works very well if you don't have a sailmakers awl.
(Sailmakers awl = needle + thread spool + handle, all in one super cheap tool that produces a locking stitch)

 

Just my two cents on the thread…. The strap of my bikini top broke on the trail two summers ago and I used dental floss to sting it back up. Stronger than any thread and won’t ever rot, two years and still holding strong.

 

i went to wallmart and bought a $5.00 ratchet strap with 10' of black webbing. i got an upholstry shop to attach the straps.i pick them up later in the week. i'll let you know if it tuens out ok. bob
