As stated in earlier posts, I recently bought an almost fully restored 1976 frankenjeep (74 body on 76 chassis). 304 motor. There is a loud "chirping" noise from the driver's side front quadrant of the vehicle whenever it is moving. It is there even when coasting downhill with the engine off. It is constant with the exception of when the temperature (environmental, not engine) is above 80 degrees (I'm not crazy - the noise rarely occurs on the few hot days we have here in Montana). I have had wheel bearings, u-joints and brakes checked. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hard to say, but my 73 has a chirp about the same area. For me its the fender rubbing against the firewall. Try WD40 the crap out of different spots till you find it.

Also check the hood hold down. Mine has worn over time and squeaks like mad. A little lithium grease works for a while.

Belt noise? Try some belt dressing. Have you ever replaced the belts?

Does it increase in frequency as speed increases?

Sorry for the semi-hijack, but did you ever find your chirping noise? I seem to have the same issue, but only when its really humid or raining outside. I've replaced the belts, but it still is there. You don't hear it till around 25 mph, and it does increase is speed as you speed up. pushing in the clutch doesnt change it either, and I even popped the TC in neutral the other day to see if that would isolate it. Greased the the usual zerks in the driveline as well.

Mine was metal on metal noise due to a worn out windshield/ cowl gasket.
