Rotsa Ruck. I looked for several years, no go. I have searched tire shops (truck) looking for old tire to make my own.. I am sure there are some old heavy equip tires out there with 3/4" sidewalls but havn't found the right one yet. Let me know if you do. Tnx

    close but too early.

I'm looking for a source for a kit of the square pieces of tire used to mount tubs through the 60s and into the early 70s. nobody seems to list them for a 70 CJ5 :(

I doubt you'll find anyone taking the time to repop those in a kit. Find an old dump truck mud flap and have at it. Stack 'em if you need to. Or, buy the black poly replacement pucks and run them thru a bandsaw for thickness and shape. That's all I got on that.

Another source might be a thrown-off truck tire cap by the side of the road.

Back in the day, these things came through the Jeep parts system both made from tread and made from sidewall. The thicker ones had obvious tread. I've cut up a tire with a sawzall to make pads for my compressor, but it's not easy to cut through steel belts. A nylon bias-ply tire would be better.

Old conveyer belts from your local gravel pit there as thick as 1 inch, maybe a good source.

the closest thing i've seen to the stock mounts,is the rubber they use on some tailpipe hangers. also i just checked the few pieces i have left of my stock mounts and a few of them are about 1/8 thick the others are around 1/2 inch. if walaks don't work for you your welcome to have what i have left ,but there not in the best of shape

Sorry, I thought they were thick rubber. Didn't mean to use them whole.

If the ones you ordered aren't what you had in mind, I suggest you make them out of what has been mentioned before, belting from a gravel pit or somewhere. I had a few of the original left on my JEEP when I rebuild it and used them for my pattern, and used old belting and thought they came out pretty close. The only thing that I am not sure about was the thickness. Because my old ones were some what flattened, I did not know for sure exactly how thick to make them and had to guess at that.

I would already be down that road if I could find a source for used belting around here somewhere. don't have the time and don't want to spend the gas money to run around searching.

good looking blocks by the way:)

Well.... a package arrived from Walcks today and I opened it with measured anticipation to find: (see pic):):?:evil:

luckily I have one of the original mounts to compare it with. their "3/8 inch thickness" quoted over the phone turns out to be a cool 1/4 and way to thin to use. now I could glue two together and have the exact thickness I want but then I would need 12 more at $2 apiece to complete the set...

don't want to wait any longer to install tub... what to do.

went to U-wrench-it to think about my delema... happened across a pickup with a 5/8 inch thick bed mat.

sawed off a piece about 1.5 ft square and headed for the counter. the mat was in a painter's truck and had a substantial spill of ECJ pink paint all over it so the piece I had under my arm looked pretty rough, I approached the pricing dudes at the door:

dude 1: "what do we have here" as he is reaching out with the price marker pen

    me: "a chunk of rubber"

dude 2 to dude 1: "don't"... to me" have a nice day"

me: "I believe I will, thank you very much"

    :) monkeys

Careful, chunks of nasty rubber aren't an authentic restoration. I hope this thread doesn't get locked down and all of us banned. R)
