Sounds like a bad gauge to me . If you grounded the wire for the gauge you know the wires good. And if your sure your sending unit is good I would replace the gauge.:flag:

sounds like you have the wrong sending unit or the gauge.

The sending unit has to match the gauge design or vise-versa. The resistance of the sender is designed to have a reading of 10 ohms for full and 73 ohms empty. If you dont get these readings then the gauge wont know where to point to. Oh-- half full should be about 23 ohms.

the sender unit i bought was adjustable. if i remember correctly there was a tab of metal that slid over the coils on the sender that you could move back and forth to give you more or less resistance.

it has a cork float so i assumed it is original. when i tested it i have 10 ohms full and 80 ohms empty. it has a metal tab on each side of the float arm which could be bent to adjust empty to read 73 ohms. the gauge looks original to me how can you tell if its been replaced?

my gauge is now working. the screw that connects the wire to the sender was rusty so i put a new screw in. then i grounded the sender, turned the ign. key on and gauge read empty. then i raised the float by hand and gauge moved to full as i raised the float to full. always check connections first, huh, who knew.
