Got it in!!!!!!!

    Finally got the fly wheel for my even fire 231 and did not waste any time putting it in along with the clutch and mounting the transmission up to the engine. I have been waiting for this day for a long time. Now I have placed the engine into its compartment and am trying to place it in the right place. I have the NOVAK adjustable engine mounts set about 14" back from the center of the upper shock mount bolt to the front of the mount plate. I went underneath and noticed that the tranny and transfer case are twisted off to the passenger side. The passenger side mount sits partially in the hole that was there for the rivots on the original mounts. I noticed that this was about 2" back from the drivers side.

    My question is does this mounting placement seem right distance wise? Whats up with the twisting? I have read two different theories as to which way the engine is supposed to be offset by 1 1/4". Which is correct to the drivers side or passenger side? Has anyone else ran into the hole on the passenger side? I am thinking that a filler plate maybe, any sugeestions please.

    Pretty excited to get all this back in and running again, have missed driving it around.

    In every V6 conversion I've seen and done the engine is centered between the frame rails.

    The writeup for the 4.3L swap has the engine being offset by an inch to the drivers side to clear the front driveshaft. Ive not got a clue how your mounts are set up but no matter your engine position, i wouldnt want it TWISTED.

    get it lined up vertically, be it offset to one side or another by an inch or so, it should not be twisted.

    On mine I offset to the passenger side 3/4", I used the trans/xfercase cross member as fore and aft location. I kept my engine angle not to exceed 5 deg. If I remember correctly I was a 3.5 degrees tail shaft down.

    The engine is offset to the P side - I have the same mounts you do on mine. When I put the SM465 in, I moved the whole thing forward some to keep a good position with the Tranny/tcase.

    Don't have a camera till later in the week (wife has it in TX for our son's return from Iraq) I can measure it for you if you want.

    FWIW, the factory :v6: is offset to the drivers side 1".

    Finally got the measurements for you - and can post pics on my personal Page later of my mounts in the frame if you want them (little tough to see as I still have the body on right now)...

    To CL on crank P side is 14 1/2 - D side is 11 1/4
    From CL Front Shock pin to Front of the MM is P side 12" D side is 11 1/2.

    When I was looking at the mounts I remember wrestling with the same thing - I swung mine on the hoist while I laid it out. At that time I was also putting the SM465 in and moved things to ensure clearance. Looking at my exhaust (Fender well exit headers from AA) you can see that I am about an extra inch to the P side based on the clearance as the exhaust goes down the frame.

    My notes also say that I cut the area you were talking about with the holes in the boxed inner frame and reboxed it (got to write these things down as my memory is not what it used to be :) ).

    I appreciate the help, got it all set up today, and the brackets welded on to the frame. Now the real fun begins.
