Liner for Hobart Handler 120

    I'm a bit new to wire feeds when it comes to problems with them.
    I bought a used Handler that had wire jamming just past the feed rollers.
    I thought I fixed it by pulling the old wire out and re-inserting the gun delivery fitting back into the feed connection. It had been only inserted part way when I received the unit.

    After using it a few dozen times, the wire plain won't feed. [Obviously] more tightening of the feed rollers just jams the wire just after the rollers and shears it.

    After removing the whole gun assy, and pulling the liner, the wire I left in the liner is VERY hard to pull either way.

    Q - do the liners build up with dirt and metal shavings over time causing a restriction that kills feed (thus why it's a maintenance item to change the liner)?
    Or, is there something else that's happening?

    Thay make differant size liner .024, .030, .035 ,,,,,
    If he liner is to small it will jamb up.
    thay also get dirty

    Absolutely, fine particulate settles on the spool and gets pulled into the liner by the wire.
    I change my liner about once a year, but I also weld (and grind) a lot.

    When you change the liner, install a new contact tip as well.

    EDIT: I'm not sure about Hobart but Miller makes liners for its line that cover a range of wire sizes .030-.035 or .035-.045 for example.

    Same with Hobart, one size fits all.

    Yes. The liners do accumulate dust, filings, etc. If you remove the wire from the liner, you can disconnect the gun completely from the welder, and lie the gun assembly straight out on the floor. Remove the tip, as well.

    Take a blow gun for an air compressor, and blow air through the liner. You can see the dust fly out. I do this every time wire is out of my gun.

    Welding suppliers also sell small felt cylinders, with a slit in them. They attach onto the weld wire between the spool and the drive rolls. Suppliers also sell a small squirt can of a lubricant/dust grabber/ fluid that collects the grime, etc. BEFORE it gets to the rolls, and into the liner. Keeps the liner nice and clean.

    If your wire is hard to pass through the liner, first check that it is the correct size for the diameter of the wire that you're using, as was previously suggested, but also make absolutely sure that the liner has NO KINKS, no matter how slight.

    There are 2 very minor kinks in the liner which sounds like the most probable problem. I'll get another liner and go from there.

    WOW! Feeds and welds like a new welder! (Well, what I think a new welder works like, never had one). Thanks again for the help!
