I just bought a spare tire bracket for my m38 off of ebay. My question is where should it be located? I have a M38 Owners manual and the picture shows the spare tire on the back, but the manual is also dated 1956. So for a 51 should it be on the tailgate passenger side or the rear passenger side panel? Thanks guys

on the tailgate, you should see supports on the passenger side of your tailgate.

Thats what confused me, I have supports on the driver's side for the gas tank, but nothing on the passenger side...

Would a two pieces of angle iron on each side be enough? Does someone have apictures by anychance of where and how they are mounted? Pictures are a 1000 words..

On the drivers side would be your fuel can. Send me pics of your tailgate. I will look to see if I have pics of mine.

Ok in this pic you can see the 4 bolts that would hold the spare tire carrier on if I had it mounted yet

The pics defiantly help show where it needs to mount. Is the reinforcement the same as the jerry can holder?
