Here are the part #'s for that mc.

Try googling #16719.05 or #945556. The first one is a Omix-ada # and the other is an equivalent in another Manf. You don't have to get it from Herm. I found them ranging from $70 to $250.

Once again, everything for the V6's are different than for the 4cyl

i have the f-head 4 cyl engine in my 66, so this is why its different ? the 6 cyl. engine models have dual res. master cyl. is that right? my mc is a single res. with 2 holes in the bottom for mounting to frame. how does the dual mount up?

I haven't found a rebuild kit yet, just though that there's got to be a way out there. and would hate to see it chucked

FYI You can take the remote clutch reservoir off an 80's to 90's Ford ranger or S-10 with a stick in it. Mount it to the fire wall, run a line down to the master cylinder lid and tap a barbed fitting into it. and then you don't have to worry about taking the lid off to fill it. :)

'68 was the year of fed mandates such as PCV systems, side markers, seat belts and dual-chamber MCs. There were probably others as well.

I second that. The dual reservoir came about in '68, after the fed mandate. They used a bracket similar to Herm's that mounted the firewall style under the floor. I used a '68 bracket to mount Herm's master cylinder for disc/drum under the floor of my 66 V6 after removing a single reservoir and grinding out the plate on the frame. I don't think I paid that much to herm though. are you sure he is not quoting the bracket and master cylinder kit?

alright , ground down factory retainer to fit in new mc. installed rod and e clip -still alittle looose but it will not fall out of the hole . tryied to just install without rod being held and it would fall out of line .see where a washer is needed to space it away from the frame .brakes seem way smoother to apply but there is more travel than my old one and it finally grabs the jeep hard with them kind of stomped on . that would mean I need more throw ?????????anyone? I bench blead the mc-and the wheel cyl. 2x spuds you used this mc ,is it kind of soft?can't really compare it to the 20+yrs old mc.

Check brake shoe adjustment, or bleed complete system till fluid is clear. There will be a little more travel due to the shimming, but not anything significant. There's a chance it could also be a defective master cyclinder. I didn't have any problems after I put the new one on. The pedal should not be soft or spongy . let know how you make out

The MC I found was for a '70 CJ5 with a 225, it was ~20 bux at Advance Auto Parts, Cardone # 10-1292. It even has the port in the bottom for the brake light switch! 8)

The rebuild kit for this is Raybestos MK529, which apparently isn't being sold anymore. I took my master cylinder to ABS Power Brake in Orange and they had the parts to rebuild it. They said they could also resleeve it if it was badly pitted, luckily mine wasn't. It cost $75 for the rebuild (parts&labor), so not as good a deal as the Cardone MC, but I knew all the linkages would fit, since it came off the jeep.
