Have been working on the Carter on my old A1. It has always ran rich at idle and going down the road. I am planning on replacing the accelerator pump, and set the timing and valves. My question is does anyone know what size the jet needs to be. I currently have an 0.092 in it with a stepped needle. Wondering if this is around the right size for Southern Ok at around 1,100 feet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the baseline jet size is .0935" and the literature says this is good up to 4000 ft. The literature also recommends changing the metering rod over 4000 ft, not the jet, but I have never had any luck finding the lean metering rods. I have a newly rebuild Fhead and I run the .0935" at sea level and a .089" at 6000-7000 ft and it runs great.

Where did you get the 0.089" jet?

Don's Carburetor in Colorado (303)-237-3006. I bought two jets .890 and .860 and I think it was $10 or $15 including shipping. I think they reference the size by drill bit sizes, so the .890 is a 43 and the .860 is a 44. With my old engine I was using the 44 to keep it from running too rich. When I rebuild it, I discovered why.... I think it was only running on 2 cylinders.

    Opps, I meant .089 and .086.

Thanks, I think I'll order some and give them a try.

I do know that the carb jets are the same as in an Edelbrock/Carter AFB 4-barrel. Thank you all for the info.
