    hey guys..

I am usually on the military side of things restoring m38a1-
but this time got myself into something else.

Purchased a 1967 tuxedo park and a 1968 jeepster commando
Would like to know if the seats are interchangeable (looks the same) and
where full bodies for the commando are sold

..The floor side has rotten off the sides so the jeep needs lots of work but everything else is mint.

Has a hard top and the engine runs well.Other wise i am open to any other suggestions or mods body wise....do other jeep bodies fit on the commando frame

    thankx guys.

Welcome. Not sure of the seats being the same, might be close enough to fit.
Jeepster bodies are available--nowhere. Mark Vilbert at justjeepsters.com has repro floor pans, inner/outer rockers, tailgates and some other sheet metal available. Don Fletcher at Jeepsterpartsdude.com is another guy to check with for repro parts like weatherstrip, electrical that kind of stuff. If you're just building a wheeler you can buy a lot of sheet metal for what you'd pay for the repro stuff.
The closest Jeep that would fit would probably be a CJ-6 or an 8 although neither is a direct bolt on.

The CJ-6 frame is the same wheelbase but everything else is different. They may share frame rails and some crossmembers, but you'd have to put the frames side-by-side to compare. I know that the rear spring mounting is completely different - spring mounts on a Commando would stick out the rear corners of a CJ-6.

If you have a good Jeepster that needs a body, you'd probably be best off to find a parts car. I expect that would be the cheapest and easiest approach in the long run.

The seats should bolt on, but the vinyl patterns may be different. I recall the CJ and Commando back seats are the same, so I'd expect the front seats to be the same too.

Another one of those "Canadian" edition Commandos with the extra rusty body panels, eh? I've got a couple myself, there will be a lot of sheet metal fabrication going on when I get around to building one out of my two.

    Good luck with the resto

    well boys

I have found three different commando 71-73 full bodys out in the boonies. There is one which was surely a pickup version and the other two were conventional bull nose models. I had a friend go down and check them out and they real...

I will have to spend some time travelling to check out the tubs..

    thank
    you

Realize that the '72-73 Commando has a different wheelbase, different frame and different front clip - the infamous "bullnose" Commando. The body did not change as I recall, but there will be additional differences like the steering column, engines, and so forth. They should be a good donor for sheet metal, but I'd expect most unrestored examples to have rust in the rockers, floor pans and tailgate.
