I just purchased a 1967 V6. My problem is finding information on parts. The air intake assembly is missing. The manual from Haynes very little information. I am trying to find out what the name of the part that comes off the valve cover before the hose into the air intake. I see jeeps with nice shiny parts so I know I can find new parts, so far I have only found a used dealer and am I little worried on buying an item I am not familiar with. Can someone recommended great reading material so I can get caught up on what I am dealing with. I see they have an older manual for jeep and are wondering if it is worth the $40.00. I restored a 914 and could find all sorts of info. This 1967 Jeep I am having technical difficulties. Thanks:rofl:

This is probably the best guide for early CJs out there: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Jeep-CJ-Rebuilders-Manual/Moses-Ludel/e/9780837610375

As for parts, try www.crownautomotive.net. I like 'em a bit better than Omix. They don't sell direct, but they have a list of distributors on their website. I usually use www.quadratec.com or www.4wd.com for the sake of simplicity.

Lots of good info here on this site as well. Search engine is your friend, but don't be afraid to ask specifics if you find yourself getting overwhelmed.

Learn to take photos and upload 'em. Helps a lot with diagnosis and/or identifying parts you're talking about. As for your air filter, if you're not trying to do a full restoration, a little K&N replacement filter assembly should do it for you. Hose assembly will just be the hot air stove used to provide warmer air to the carb during cold startup/running conditions. Not really necessary if you give it a little extra warm up time in the morning.

I have the original oil-bath air cleaner for my 67 with a 225, but I wanted a typical chrome top with the K&N donut filter. The stock carb on the 225 at least has a 2-5/8" opening. If you want the chrome type Summit Racing sells them. It has the 5/8" hose fitting on the bottom for the breather off the valve cover too. If you have a different motor you might need different parts of course.

Coming off the valve cover , going to the intake: that would be your PCV.

You mean the air cleaner? That would be the crank case breather. The PCV hooks to the base of the carburetor on the back.

I believe she is referring to the metal adapter that plugs into the rubber seal on the valve cover and then connects to the hose that goes to the oil bath air filter.

    A jeep girl who is also a porsche girl are you available? ;) Iv also got a 67 cj-5 v6 and a 82 911sc.
You can use a standard vlave cover breather there and not connect to the air filter. As for reading material. I read jp magazine and petersons 4 wheel&offroad for a few years before i even got a jeep. Made it a sinch to jump right into things when i got my 2a.
Have fun and dont stress everything you need is out there :)

My Dauntless has the pcv hose on the passenger's side valve cover hooked to the intake under the carb. On the driver's side, there is a 5/8" hose from the valve cover to the underside of the air cleaner. On the driver's side there is a separate opening for the oil fill that had a blue AC breather type cap on it, which I've replaced by a new chrome auto parts store jobbie.

Factory Service Manual or FSM is invaluable and worth every penny. Jeep Owner's Bible by Moses Ludel is a favorite. There are a couple others that escape me right now.

Tons of good info and resources right on this site. Start asking questions, doing searches using that function, take lots of pics.

    Lastly but not leastly, Welcome!:)

Imagine that. The PO had them hooked up backwards. Easiest thing I ever had to repair on my CJ. Thanks Patrick.:)

I will post pictures. I got the Jeep at a time when I really cannot afford new parts, but could afford the deal that I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. Always wanted a Jeep In fact was thinking about selling my 914 for a Jeep. But after putting so much time into the 914 just cannot sell her. Let me see what I can come up with for pictures. Everyone is so much help Thank you. I will be posting alot more. The guy who had it before had it stolen and they rolled it. I am find more damage as the process continues. Ok really bad question LOL I have three shifters in the jeep. One I know is 4x4 H L N 2H, the other is my gears, what is the one in the passenger side. I will post pictures. Thanks again.

OVERDRIVE, if you're lucky, if not it's high-N-low.
That year Jeep should have 3 shifters, one Xfer case shifter (4h-2-n-4L)
The next one over (almost as tall as the trans shifter) should be the overdrive, believe forward is OD, back is direct (I'm sure I'll be corrected if backwards)
    Then the standard trans shifter.

There is a chance the Xfer got changed for 2 stick if the shifter is a little short one on the right.
