Heater box questions......

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I got an intermediate fiberglass tub. It had a stock heater in it before I got it. It's not no heater now. Not air box, nothing. I finally found a complete 75 vent system. The plastic on the under cowl box is so brittle, it's crumbling in places. But I can fiberglass that. No worries. I have the heater box but no blower motor. And the holes in the firewall all match up. But it needs some repair work and the plastic is a little brittle. But it's workeable.

I also have a post 76 heater that I can make work. BUt the air duct is 90* the wrong way. And I'd have to cut the firewall for the newer one and close up the old holes. But I could make it work with fiberglass and some creative ducting. And I could do the way cool blower motor upgrade so the heat actually works.

Any pro's or cons to using either a pre 76 or a post 76 heater box and the parts there in?

IF they are the same, it would be a little eaiser to use the pre 76 box.......

My 75 would roast you out after the motor warmed up. Soft top and 15 degrees or colder. Although with my glass body I did not put the cowl vent in, it drew air from inside the vehicle. Took about 8 minutes of the 20 minute ride to work to get comfortable inside, longer ride I had to turn it way down or open a window.

You live in Fla, how much heat do you need?

I really only need a defroster. I can live wihtout heat. But I'd rather have it working on those cold 50* winter mornings.R)

50? last week (week before T-Day) we had 27 and heavy frost on the windshield. Gotta love those warm coastal areas except for the rust. As to heater and defrost mine worked pretty good (lot of motor noise) before the heater core started leaking but haven't fixed the core yet, just looped the line back to the engine.
