First of all since this is my first post ill begin by introducing myself. I bought my cj5 april of last year upon returning to the states from a tour in afghanistan. I works as a fuels maintenance journeyman in a civil engineering squadron for the USAF. I am stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana. The jeep is in fairly good shape, the worst of it was the small subframe under the body where the mounts bolt up, was almost completely rusted out. I stripped it all off and replaced it with 1/8" cold rolled square stock. I have yet to fire the motor, just bought a new carb but i think my timing is wayyyyy off because it tries to start but then back fires. Hoping to have the jeep trail worthy by spring.

When i bought my 75 CJ5 the body mounts were severly rusted and i ended up having to rebuild the entire sub frame of the body. My question is about the steel sleeve spacers inside the body mounts. I am use to working on chevy trucks and the rubber body mounts have a steel insert in it. The ones i pull off my jeep did not, and all the kits i find online look like they do not have them either...so should they be there? or does this year of jeep just not have the inserts? Also if anyone has a list of any idea of wat size bolts go where on these jeeps you might save me a few trips to lowes lol. I would greatly appreciate any help. thanks!!!!!

I just got done with the body mounts on my '74. After trying 1/2" and 7/16" bolts, I finally went with 3/8" grade 8's from lowes. I used 4" bolts by the firewall, 3" bolts for the floorboards and 2" bolts along the back.
1/2" fit the hole in my poly bushings but not the holes in the floorboards/hat channels. The 7/16" fit in the floorboards but did not allow enough play to get all the mounting holes to line up. 3/8" coincidentally, is the same size that I pulled off when I removed the tub. I guess they knew what they were doing at the factory. As far as bushings go, you can use rubber strips, hockey pucks or order some polyurethane. If you order a poly set, ensure that your bushings are the correct height. My poly bushings were all the same thickness, and what I later learned is there should be some different sizes. :flag:

    Armydan01,

Thanks for the timely data about bushing bolts. I ordered poly all around (motor, trans, & body) and want to replace the old bolts with new. Lucky for me Lowes is down the road.:flag:
