Need help with trans mount location.

    From the pics it looks like a CJ with stock V-6. The pics also show a T-90 transmission which is shorter than stock. The t-90 was not used behind the V-6 stock so that's probably why the mount and crossmember don't line up. V-6 CJ stock tranny's were T-86, T-14, and T-98/T-18 4 speed.

    looks all stock and factory to me
    T86/adapter as well
    could be factory holes in the frame, both sets.
    F4134 vs V6

    Oops, my bad :oops:. I was going from the shape of the top and momentarily forgot the shifter top is the same between T-86 and T-90. Ignore the rest of my post.

    Hey thanks. The mount under the trans to the crossmember is thru 2" square tubing. Could this be the issue? Maybe they relocated the crossmember to fit the square tube instead of getting a new trans mount? Im trying to nail this down because it looks like the clutch shaft that mounts to the frame rail and to the TC is not perpendicular between the frame and TC. At the frame it sits farther aft of the TC mount. Just seems goofy to me. There is a mount on the pass side of TC that isn't matching up and PO just left a mounting bolt laying there. A lot of newer bushing spacers and bolts so someone moved something around here. Well thanks for the help. Im gonna go stare at it for a while. Gonna get some compression readings too. Sounded good when it was running maybe I wont have to rebuild it. Just stop all the leaks.

    Oops, I meant the clutch shaft is more rearward at the frame than the TC.

    Looks like PO made up the mount at the frame with a bolt welded to a plate that he mounted to the fram. It's just not square is all. Ok well I can't find any pics in either the haynes manual or the service manual. Anyone know where there's a pic of the proper assembly?

    Sure looks pretty stock to me. The rear mount is of course rubber (originally) and mine is mounted in the front frame holes. The clutch/brake tube is as close to a 90* angle as you can get. I am wondering if the engine mounts could have been reversed (since they are different) or is it even possible. They are marked "L" & "R". Even tho I have a T90 behind my V6 (not original) the T90 and T86AA are the same length. The d18 mount on that crooked piece of steel to the cross-member is normal.

    The stock trans mount look like a long motor mount that bolted to the cross member on the bottom, on the top a 3x6x3/8 piece that then bolted to the trans, and that crooked piece walt told you about bolted to a round rubber mount right were it is only parallel to the crossmember,(yours is canted foward) the right mount is hard to find unless your a ecj5 member:) so looks as thou he (po)just hard mounted it with that channel looking piece and had to move the crossmenber forward to line ever thing up hope this helps

    Ok, thanks. I don't know if I should change this mount set up. I guess it will depend how far I get into it. Suppose it worked fine for PO. I took the shift cover off today to find chunky soup! Lots a gears with chipped teeth.

    that setup looks hookey to me
    the tcase and the tranny should mount to the cross member easily with out adapters, you can move the cross member and drill new mounting holes to get this done. I had that problem when i #$@%canned my T86 and put in a T14. I lined up the torque mount on the tcase so it fit with factory mounts, noticed the T14 lined up perfectly to the cross member and so I used a Daystar tranny mount to mount that and drilled the frame to secure the cross member in the new position solid as a rock. no drive line movement now.
